MicroTrends Ltd is the original pioneer of hybrid automated trading systems for retail futures traders using NinjaTrader. Since 2009, MicroTrends has developed proprietary, open-source and white-label technologies spanning indicators, bar types, strategy frameworks, interactive trade controllers and professional algorithmic trading systems.
This page records the evolution of those systems from the original NinjaTrader 7 frameworks to today’s NinjaTrader 8, desktop, web and mobile trading ecosystem. It distinguishes current products from completed, discontinued and legacy technologies.
From Automated Strategies to Hybrid Algorithmic Trading
Traditional automated strategies place all trading logic inside the platform strategy lifecycle. This can work well for research, backtesting and controlled automation, but early retail-platform strategies could lose operational context following a disconnection, restart, rejected order or manual intervention.
MicroTrends progressively developed technology to move beyond these limitations. The evolution began with managed NinjaTrader strategies, progressed to unmanaged order handling and interactive hybrid controls, and later moved to API-driven trading engines capable of reconciling orders and positions, supporting stop-start-continue operation and combining trader judgement with automated execution and trade management.
Hybrid algorithmic trading allows the trader to choose the appropriate level of control:
- Manual or systematic entry: The trader selects the entry while the system manages the protective stop, targets, breakeven and trailing logic.
- Semi-automated entry: The trader sets the market direction or trading conditions and authorises the system to take the next qualifying setup.
- Fully automated entry: The system executes predefined rules while the trader remains responsible for supervision, risk and operating conditions.
- Hybrid real-time control: The trader can pause, resume, change bias or prevent further entries as market structure, news and risk conditions change.
For modern retail futures and prop-firm trading, the principal ATS focus is attended hybrid trading rather than unrealistic “switch it on and watch it make money” promises. Technology can improve consistency, execution and emotional control, but it does not remove market risk or the need for a tested trading process.

AlgoFuturesTrader 8
AlgoFuturesTrader 8 represents the current generation of MicroTrends-derived NinjaTrader technology distributed by Algo Trading Systems LLC. It combines the original hybrid trading principles developed for AFT7 with a more advanced NinjaTrader 8 architecture designed for reliability, interactive control and professional trade management.
Core Capabilities
- Manual, semi-automated and fully automated trade-entry modes
- Automated protective stops, targets, breakeven and trailing management
- Hybrid long, short, pause, stop and resume controls
- Multiple entries, position management and scale-out capabilities
- Turnkey workspaces for session breakouts, trend trading, pullbacks and other systematic methods
- Custom NinjaScript entry rules and filters
- Strategy components for research, backtesting and optimisation
- Integration with AlphaWebTrader signals and market intelligence
AFT can support intraday and longer-duration trading applications, but the appropriate automation level depends on the trader, account, broker, connection, strategy and applicable prop-firm or exchange rules. Every trader remains responsible for monitoring their accounts, orders, positions and risk.
AlphaWebTrader
AlphaWebTrader extends the ecosystem beyond the NinjaTrader desktop. It provides a browser, desktop and mobile view of futures, major ETFs and large-cap technology markets using proprietary multi-time-frame technical analysis, correlated market views, session analysis and real-time signals.
AWT can be used independently alongside another platform or combined with AlgoFuturesTrader. Its primary role is to help traders identify directional alignment, distinguish trending from mixed conditions and decide when to trade, which direction to favour or when to remain on the sidelines.
ATSQuadroStrategyBase Open-Source Framework
ATSQuadroStrategyBase is MicroTrends’ open-source NinjaTrader 8 unmanaged-mode strategy framework. It was released as a development and educational resource for programmers building hybrid strategies, trade-management interfaces and multiple-exit systems.
The framework helps prevent common order-handling problems and provides a strong foundation for backtesting and attended strategy automation. However, it remains a NinjaTrader strategy-based engine and should not be confused with the broader compiled architecture and operational capabilities provided by AlgoFuturesTrader 8.

White-Label and Licensed Trading Systems
MicroTrends has developed and licensed trading technology for other NinjaTrader vendors, trading groups and commercial clients. A white-label product may contain MicroTrends-designed engines, interfaces, indicators or trading methods while being branded, marketed and supported by another company.
The availability, pricing and support status of a white-label product are controlled by the vendor supplying it. Traders considering a legacy product should confirm whether it is still supported, compatible with the current NinjaTrader platform and suitable for their intended trading environment.
